History
The Town of Olean was incorporated in 1954. The City of Olean, originally the Village of Olean, is within the town.

The Village of Olean, was originally named Hamilton, after Alexander Hamilton, but was called Olean Point until simplified to Olean in 1823. The name “Olean” was suggested for the area due to the oil found in the vicinity. The original town hall burned in 1884, prompting a law that forbade wooden structures in parts of the town.

The Town of Onondaga is a located southwest of the Syracuse in Onondaga County, New York. As of the 2000 U.S. Census, the town had a population of 21,063.

History
The Town of Onondaga was incorporated on April 2, 1798 from parts of other towns, with several subsequent boundary changes. The first court house for the County of Onondaga was built in 1805 on the public square in Onondaga Hill, which was then the county seat. The building was laid out by surveyor and engineer James Geddes. After the county seat was moved to Syrcacuse in 1830, the building was used as a school until 1846.

History
The first settler arrived in 1806. The Town of Ontario was created in 1807 as the “Town of Freetown” from a part of the Town of Williamson. In 1808 the town name changed to Ontario.
