Kingwood is a 14,000-acre master-planned community located in northeast Houston, Texas. It is the second largest master-planned community in the Houston—Sugar Land—Baytown Metropolitan Area.
Known as the “Livable Forest", Kingwood is being developed by the Friendswood Development Company and was founded in 1969. The most recent estimation of Kingwood’s population was approximately 63,000 for 2004.
In 1995, the master-planned community of Kingwood was annexed to the city of Houston. Some residents in the community were opposed to it and tried to set up a petition in 1999 for deannexation, but they failed. Banners that read “Free Kingwood” can occasionally still be seen.
Kingwood pupils attend school in the Humble Independent School District.
