Bolivar is a town located in Allegany County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,223. The town is named after the patriot Simón Bolívar.

The Town of Bolivar is on the south border of the county. There is also a village called Bolivar in the town.

History
The Town of Bolivar was incorporated in 1825, formed from part of the Town of Friendship. The first settler had arrived around 1819.

The south town line is the border of Pennsylvania.
