Long Lake : New York

Long Lake is a town located in Hamilton County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 852. The town is named after a body of water in the town.

The Town of Long Lake was formed in 1837 from parts of several other pre-existing towns. It is entirely within the Adirondack State Park and is the most northerly town in the county.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1,165.2 km˛ (449.9 mi˛). 1,056.4 km˛ (407.9 mi˛) of it is land and 108.9 km˛ (42.0 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 9.34% water. The town is in the Adirondack State Park.

The body of water known as Long Lake is about 25 miles long and up to 12 miles wide. The lake extends across the northern part of the county.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 852 people, 387 households, and 236 families residing in the town. The population density is 0.8/km˛ (2.1/mi˛). There are 1,496 housing units at an average density of 1.4/km˛ (3.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 97.42% White, 0.59% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
