Rockland is a town located in Sullivan County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,913.

The Town of Rockland in in the northern part of the county. (There is also a Rockland County, New York to the southeast of Sullivan County.)

History
The town, like most of this part of New York, was part of the Hardenburgh Patent. The town was first settled around 1789. The town was established in 1910 from the western part of the Town of Neversink.

Geography
The northwest town line is the border of Delaware County, New York, and the northeast town line is the border of Ulster County, New York. Most of the town is within the Catskill State Park.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 246.7 km˛ (95.2 mi˛). 244.2 km˛ (94.3 mi˛) of it is land and 2.5 km˛ (1.0 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.01% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,913 people, 1,560 households, and 1,040 families residing in the town. The population density is 16.0/km˛ (41.5/mi˛). There are 2,475 housing units at an average density of 10.1/km˛ (26.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 91.31% White, 3.19% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.89% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.71% from other races, and 1.84% from two or more races. 7.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
