It is situated on U.S. Highway 10 at 43° 56? 45? N 86° 02? 21? W, just north of the Pere Marquette River within the Manistee National Forest. The ZIP code is 49402.
The community was founded in the early 1870s, first as a lumbermen’s community, later becoming a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad.
