Simsbury : Connecticut
Simsbury is a town located in Hartford County, Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 23,234. The town was incorporated as Connecticut’s twenty-first town in May 1670.
The first steel mill in the history of the United States opened in Simsbury in 1728.
Simsbury’s sister city is Wittmund, Germany.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 88.9 km˛ (34.3 mi˛). 87.7 km˛ (33.9 mi˛) of it is land and 1.1 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.25% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,234 people, 8,527 households, and 6,591 families residing in the town. The population density is 264.8/km˛ (685.7/mi˛). There are 8,739 housing units at an average density of 99.6/km˛ (257.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 95.30% White, 1.17% African American, 0.09% Native American, 2.12% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 1.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 8,527 households out of which 41.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.1% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% are non-families. 19.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.12.
