History
Originally called South Danvers and even before that, part of Salem Village, Peabody was first settled in 1626 and was officially incorporated in 1868. Giles Corey, the only person stoned to death in the Salem witch hysteria of 1690, had his farm and was buried here beside his wife next to Crystal Lake.
