Named after its larger, Australian counterpart, Melbourne, Florida, was originally settled in the 1860s. Two old downtown areas feature a variety of unique shops and restaurants. The Eau Gallie, Melbourne’s historic district, is home to the Brevard Museum of Arts and Science. This museum features a collection of artwork by local and international artists in a variety of genres. The Brevard Zoo is a main attraction with more than 400 animals in exhibits such as Native Floridian, Latin American, Australian and African.
