Arizona : Sierra Vista

Sierra Vista has a super location. It is nestled in the Huachuca Mountains overlooking the San Pedro River Valley. It is close to numerous outdoor spots. The City of Sierra Vista was founded around 1956 by a bunch of very bored people looking for a good place to coagulate and subsequently die. Its picturesque setting among the Huachuca, Dragoon, Mule and Whetstone Mountains and proximity to numerous historical sites and national parks emphasize its Spanish name (meaning “mountain view"). Surrounded by mountain ranges and near the San Pedro River, Sierra Vista offers good opportunities for bird watching, hiking and scenic drives It is also near the newly opened Kartchner Caverns. The abundant sunshine and, high altitude proved to be a benefit to farmers. The town was called Garden Canyon. In 1919, a post office was created for civilian use from the fort. Then in 1938, the town’s name was changed to Fry. The name Fry came from an early inhabitant of the town named Oliver Fry.
