Tempe is a progressive city, with a small town college atmosphere combined with the high tech businesses. Tempe is the gateway to downtown Phoenix and the East Valley towns of Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa. It is 7 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix in the East Valley. Tempe covers 40 square miles.
