Mackay is a city located in Custer County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 566.

Geography
Mackay is located at 43°54′43″ North, 113°36′49″ West (43.911880, -113.613669)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 566 people, 261 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density is 251.2/km˛ (651.8/mi˛). There are 353 housing units at an average density of 156.7/km˛ (406.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 98.59% White, 0.00% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 261 households out of which 23.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.9% are non-families. 39.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.13 and the average family size is 2.86.
