Brainerd is a city located in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,178. It is the county seat of Crow Wing County6 and one of the largest cities in Central Minnesota.
Geography
Brainerd is located just north of the geographical center of Minnesota, in a relatively hilly terminal moraine area created by the Superior Lobe of the Labradorian ice sheet. The town occupies land on both sides of the Mississippi River, though the older parts of Brainerd are almost all to the east.
Though the city itself has relatively few lakes, there are over 460 lakes within 25 miles of Brainerd, located mostly to the north. For this reason, Crow Wing County and parts of the adjoining counties are often collectively referred to as the Brainerd Lakes Area. Many people from nearby towns like Baxter, East Gull Lake, and Nisswa consider themselves Brainerd residents.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.9 km˛ (8.4 mi˛). 20.6 km˛ (8.0 mi˛) of it is land and 1.2 km˛ (0.5 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 5.57% water.

History
The Smiley Township was founded in 1900, but local resident Leon Lum convinced residents to rename it Nisswa, from the Ojibwe word "nessawae" (which means "in the middle" or "three"), when the town was incorporated as a village in 1908. On December 4, 1946, Nisswa became a municipality.

St. Augusta was originally called Ventura in honor of Governor Jesse Ventura, but voters decided on its current name months after incorporation.
Kensington is a city located in Douglas County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 286. The city is notable in Minnesota history for being the place where the famous, if questionable, Kensington Runestone was discovered. The stone tablet may indicate that Vikings had come to Minnesota in the 14th century. It is now at a museum in nearby Alexandria, Minnesota.

Kasson is a city located in Dodge County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,398. The city is located 13 miles west of Rochester, Minnesota along U.S. Highway 14 and is one of the endpoints of Minnesota State Highway 57. The Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad's main freight rail line also runs through the city. Kasson shares a school district with nearby Mantorville, Minnesota (the "K-M Komets").
The city was incorporated on February 24, 1870 and is named for Jabez Hyde Kasson. The Kasson Water Tower was added to the National Register of Historic
